TA2TP (Teacher Assistant to Teacher Program)
A collaborative recruitment and retention partnership between Durham Public Schools (DPS) and North Carolina Central University (NCCU).

An academic program designed to meet the unique needs of instructional assistants

Comprehensive coursework that leads to NC teacher licensure

Strategic preparation for NC’s required licensure assessments
Specifically designed to develop the internal teaching talent of the district’s instructional assistants who intend to pursue careers as licensed teachers.
Teacher Assistant to Teacher Program (TA2TP)DPS Partnership with NCCU
2024-2025
TA2TP Criteria:
Minimum of 1 year as an Instructional Assistant with DPS
• Principal Recommendation
• Minimum of 60 credit hours from an accredited community college/university
• Minimum GPA of 2.7 from an accredited community college/university
• 1-page essay on why they want to be a teacher (Elementary, EC, or Middle Grades)
o 12-point, Ariel font, double-spaced
• Must complete the program in 3 years or less, including summer school if necessary
• Must work for DPS for a minimum of 3 years after graduation
• Must provide all transcripts to NCCU when applying

Course Registration and Sign Contract for TA2TP

6th Cohort begins at NCCU

DPS Check-In on Student Progress (drop/add deadline)

DPS Payment Criteria
DPS Will Pay
DPS will cover the cost of the following programs
• Elementary Education
• Middle Grades Education
• Special Education (Graduate Program)
✓ Summer School
✓ Books (reimbursement)
✓ Praxis (reimbursement - 1 attempt)
DPS Will Not Pay
DPS will not cover the following costs:
➢ Residency Program
➢ Take 2 Program
➢ EdTPA
➢ Multiple Praxis Attempts
➢ Graduate Classes- except Special Education Graduate Program through TA2TP
