In case of snow or other potentially hazardous weather or emergency situations, we may close or delay school. We make the decision after consulting the National Weather Service, local weather forecasters, and area law enforcement. Additionally, our staff drives the bus routes to check firsthand on local conditions.

DPS Weather Decision and Notification Procedure

In the event of a delay or cancelation, Durham Public Schools will:

• contact all of the local news media, 
• send updates through social media: Twitter  & Facebook 
• Update school and district websites
• Place automated phone calls to our families in English and Spanish.
• Update message on DPS Parent Information Hotline (919) 560-9129.

Before & After School Activities
If school dismisses early or is canceled, all after-school programs and extracurricular activities will be canceled as well.

If schools open late, all before-school care programs will also open late by the same amount of time. 
Example: A one-hour school delay means that before-school care will open an hour late.

Makeup Days
Predetermined days have been planned into the calendar year for traditional & year-round, however they can change.  All makeup days will be announced on the DPS website and social media channels.
