Vision: Igniting limitless wonder, a spirit of independence, and commitment to engage in peaceful global community
Mission: at George Watts Montessori School, our mission is to cultivate a prepared environment and follow the child so that all students…
- develop curiosity that promotes continuous growth and lifelong learning,
- are supported as a whole-child, prepared to engage in peaceful community,
- embrace independence to realize their unique contributions to our world.
Values: our community and work are grounded in these values...
Peace: we subscribe to Maria Montessori’s belief that by raising generations of children who embrace living respectful, peaceful lives, they will contribute to future world peace.
“Within the child lies the fate of the future.” -M. Montessori
Equity–we believe that Montessori education is for all and are committed to the work of dismantling systemic inequities.
“An education capable of saving humanity is no small undertaking; it involves the spiritual development of people*, the enhancement of their* value as an individual, and the preparation of young people to understand the times in which they live.” -M. Montessori*
Community–we honor the contribution of the individual and respect the impact they bring to their local and global community.
“There is a great sense of community within the Montessori classroom, where children of differing ages work together in an atmosphere of cooperation rather than competitiveness. There is respect for the environment and for the individuals within it, which comes through experience of freedom within the community.” -M. Montessori
Independence–we believe independence in thought and action can be cultivated and is the cornerstone to lifelong success.
“The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.” -M. Montessori
Kindness–we believe kindness begets kindness and is an essential component of interdependent living.
“Let us treat them, therefore, with all the kindness which we would wish to help to develop in them.” -M. Montessori
