    Gwen Dorman - Principal

    Gwen

My name is Gwen Dorman and I’m proud to be serving as your principal. I have lived and worked in North Durham since 2004, after moving from Northern Virginia, where I began my teaching career in kindergarten and first grade. While at Holt Elementary, I taught all grades, including technology, before transitioning to Easley as their instructional facilitator. I joined the Mangum family in 2014 as our assistant principal, then principal in 2018.

Outside of school, I am also the proud mother of Scarlett and Lizzy, who attends Durham School of the Arts. My husband, Alan, and I enjoy traveling and home improvement projects. If this isn't enough to keep me busy, I enjoy time with my three dogs.

I earned my bachelor's degree from Old Dominion University and my Masters in Elementary Education from University of Mary Washington. After complete my national board certification, I am very proud to say that I earned my Masters in School Administration from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Go Tar Heels!

My vision for Mangum is to continue focusing on growing the “whole child”, where academic success is just one step that guides our students to becoming who they are meant to be. Mangum focuses on a family atmosphere that gives children an education through engaged teachers, thriving art programs, peer engagement, health awareness and parent inclusion. I encourage anyone to come see the great things that are happening here at Mangum.

    Jennifer Terry - Data Manager

    Jenn Terry

Hello! My name is Jennifer Terry. I graduated from NC State with a BS in Botany (chemistry of plants) 27 years ago. I worked for several years in RTP until becoming a stay home parent. I just recently re-entered the work force. Now a mom of two teenagers, when an employment opportunity opened at my children’s former elementary school, I jumped at the chance. My family has lived in Bahama for over 100 years!  So, Mangum has always held a VERY special place in my family!   In fact, my father-in-law Ike Terry went to Mangum when the school held ALL grades (elementary through high school) over 85 years ago.

I love all plants, animals (yes, even snakes) and spending time with my family. I’m so excited to excellently fulfill the Data Manager position within Mangum Elementary!
