Title I Information

  • Glenn Elementary is a Title I school, meaning more than 40% of our students qualify for free or reduced price meals. Being a Title I school allows us to receive significant federal funding that can be used to hire additional teachers to reduce class size, purchase materials and resources for our classrooms, and to hold family events throughout the year such as our curriculum night, Hispanic Heritage Celebration, and our Black History Celebration.

As part of federal requirements under ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act), Title I schools are required to provide parents with certain information and partnership opportunities. During the summer, Glenn collaborates with interested families in updating and revising our School-Family Compact and our Family Engagement Policy. We would love for your family to be part of this team! Please reach out to Kate Hanlon at kate_hanlon@dpsnc.net and we will include you in our planning meetings!

Each year, Glenn hosts an Annual Open Meeting in September to inform parents about Glenn’s academic history, how we utilize funds, requirements under Title I legislation and more. We also host an Annual Review Meeting in May with families to discuss our school’s progress and to focus on improvements we can make with our funding and programming to improve opportunities for our students and families.

An important component of Title I requirements includes “Parents’ Right to Know.” This provides important information from DPS about testing requirements under ESSA as well as allows families to request certain qualifications of their child’s teacher including their area of licensure, their bachelor’s degree major, other degrees held by their teacher, etc.

Durham Public Schools Title I Office encourages families to join the PAC Steering Committee. Through this team, parents have the opportunity to provide insight into planning district family engagement initiatives, share experiences, and provide recommendations to help improve family engagement programming across the district. Parents will also have the opportunity to develop and build relationships with other parents and community members. If you would like to join this committee or nominate another family, please contact Kate Hanlon and we will be happy to connect you with district PAC leadership.

If you have any additional questions about Glenn’s Title I programming, funding, or federal requirements, please reach out to us at 919-560-3920.
