    • In times of uncertainty following a school threat, it’s important for staff, students, parents, and community members to come together and rely on available resources to navigate the emotional and practical challenges. There is strength in unity; through these resources, everyone can find the guidance and support needed to move forward confidently. Whether it's learning how to manage stress, helping children process their emotions, or ensuring that the community feels safe, these tools are designed to foster open communication resilience, and healing.

Our students and staff are not alone as we navigate the difficult waters following school threats, whether those threats are substantiated or rumored. Durham Public Schools have highly-skilled, school-based Student Services teams to assist families in times of need. Some version of a school-based Student Services team is available at every school.  These include Professional School Counselors, School Social Workers, School Pyschologists, and School Nurses. Students and families should contact the school-based Student Services team to discuss the best trusted adult to support them through any challenges.  If more intensive support is needed, we have district teams for responding to critical incidents or students’ emotional and mental health needs as well.  We really want our families to know that we are here for you. Together, we can create a supportive and secure environment for everyone.
