    4-H Camp

    These programs offer campers a great chance to learn, develop life skills and form attitudes that will help them to become self-directing and productive members of society.

    Arboretum Summer Garden Camps

    Engages campers in hands-on science lessons; garden investigations; arts and crafts; and fun, energetic games and activities. Topics include garden photography for middle schoolers, garden critters for preschoolers, nature detectives and garden to table for elementary school students.

    Algebra Camp

    Algebra Camp is a one-week camp for middle school students who would like to develop the skills necessary to succeed in Algebra.

    Design Camp

    Design Camp is an annual series of pre-college summer programs offered at NC State University College of Design to high school and middle school students who are interested in design. Design Camp informs students about college study in design and raises awareness of the impact of design in all aspects of our everyday lives. The skills in design thinking and creative experience gained at Design Camp can empower students on their path toward becoming innovative problem solvers and prepare them to tackle the challenges of the future.     Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP)

    Nonprofit organization that works with students, their families, and educators to identify, recognize, challenge, engage, and help students reach their highest potential.

    Educational Talent Search Program (ETS)

    The ETS Program provides programming to middle and high school students. The program’s mission is to provide equal access to quality education and facilitate retention and promotion from middle and high school through college. This program is federally funded and students must meet federal admissions criteria, attend one of the targeted schools, and demonstrate a genuine interest in pursuing education beyond high school.

    Expanding Your Horizons

    Annual one-day conference to encourage seventh grade girls to consider careers in science, mathematics, or engineering. Over 400 girls, 70 teachers and 50 women scientists will gather to learn about and do science. Groups of seven students are identified by their schools to attend.

    Females Excelling More in Math, Engineering, and Science (FEMMES)

    Duke University's FEMMES program introduces girls to the thrill of pursuing careers in science, math and engineering, at a time in their development when, education research has shown, they are prone to lose confidence and become discouraged about what they can achieve. The program volunteers, made up of female undergraduates and faculty counter this by leading fun activities in science and engineering laboratories on the Duke University campus. There the girls discover that females can and do indeed excel. Program activities include a one-day spring capstone event for 4th-6th grade girls, Saturday programs for 5th and 6th grade girls, and a weeklong summer camp in August.

    IMHOTEP Academy

    Introduces under-represented students (African-American, Hispanic, Native American, and Women) in 6th-8th grades to science, mathematics and technology at NC State University. The program uses laboratory experiments, research projects, classroom instruction, and field trips to introduce students to the rigorous and exciting worlds of chemistry, mathematics, marine, earth and atmospheric sciences, physics and statistics.

    Kramden Institute Tech Camps & Classes

    Hands-on STEAM camps, afterschool programs, and classes for middle schoolers. Create digital art and movies, fly drones, design games, and more during intersession camps. Learn how computers work and how to create and code games in afterschool programs. Do fun programming activities at the monthly Kramden Coders Club. Need-based scholarships are available.

    Math & Science Education Network (MSEN)

    This pre-college program provides year-round mentoring and academic opportunities to underserved students in grades 6-12. The NC-MSEN Pre-College Program spans the state, with locations in nine universities across North Carolina. The program prepares students for college and the pursuit of careers in STEM (Science Tech Engineering Mathematics) and related fields. 98% go on to four-year colleges or universities, and 82 percent choose STEM and education career paths. The NC-MSEN Pre-College Program is an active member of the College of Education at NC State.

    NC State's Summer Engineering Programs for Middle Schoolers

    Rising 6th through 9th graders will experience engineering through hands-on, creative investigations and design activities. The goal of the camp is to show students what engineering is all about and to expose them to the fact that “engineers’ work” is all around them. New activities are introduced each year by this College of Engineering Program. Past activities have included rocket design, egg drops and more. Students may attend a single week of engineering camp each summer.

    Saturday Academies

    Durham Partners for the Advancement of Gifted Education (PAGE) offers Saturday Academies for gifted students. Family membership in Durham PAGE is required to participate and to receive announcements of Saturday Academies, but the Saturday Academies themselves are generally free.

    Study Skills Course for Middle Schoolers

    The Study Skills Course focuses on organization, learning strategies, and test-taking skills. The course is one-week long, and students are grouped by grade (6th – 8th).

    TechGirlz

    This program aims to inspire girls to get into Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math (STEM). This year TechGirlz has already hosted classes on Linux, Python, Watson, Web Design and more! Click here to sign up for this event!

    Young Writers’ Workshop

    The Young Writers’ Workshop, a nonresidential writing camp, brings 4th – 8th grade students to the NCSU campus to study creative writing with published NC writers. The two-week, afternoon workshop offers classes in fiction, poetry, and drama every summer. Other classes in science fiction and creative nonfiction are offered when teachers are available.
