2024 Lottery Notification Process and Timeline

• Lottery Application Period (for 2024-2025 School-Year):  Monday, January 8th (12 am) through Friday, February 9th (5 pm)
  
  
• The parent or legal guardian/custodian must have a valid email address or phone number to create an online account, submit an application, and receive application updates in the application portal: SchoolMint Application Account at: https://applydpsnc.schoolmint.com/login
  
  
• Application access and assistance:
  • Use a SmartPhone, Tablet, or Computer (may be accessed at the Public Library) to access the SchoolMint Application site at https://applydpsnc.schoolmint.com/login  
  • Saturday help sessions are available at 2107 Hillandale Rd. Durham 27705 9:00 am –1:00 pm

• Lottery Notification Results Posted: Friday, March 1, 2024 - Lottery notification results will be e-mailed, texted, and posted on the Parent Dashboard of the parent/guardian SchoolMint Application Account at https://applydpsnc.schoolmint.com/login

• Deadline to Accept Assigned Lottery Seats: Friday, March 22nd, 2024 (5:00pm) – Parent/Guardian must accept the lottery seat by this deadline. Lottery assignments not accepted by this deadline will be automatically marked as a declined seat. If an applicant accepts a lottery assignment, his/her name will be removed from all other lottery application waitlist(s). Declined seats are final and cannot be reclaimed.

• Seat Acceptance is Binding - Accepted seats become the student's school assignment for the 2024-25 school year and students may not attend their base school instead without an approved hardship transfer request. 

• Sibling Applying Prioirtiy: Siblings listed under the same parent account that are applying to the same elementary or to year-round calendar schoosl will receive priority in the lottery if both applications have the school listed as their first ranked choice. This priority is now automatically applied.

• Assigned Applicants – Applicants who are offered a magnet or CTE Pathway lottery seat may decline their assignment and remain wait-listed for a possible later assignment to another school/program/pathway applied for.

• Waitlisted Applicants – If seats become available, applicants who are waitlisted will be assigned in the numbered order in which they are waitlisted. This process begins every two weeks from March 22nd – June 30^th for calendar magnet schools, and March 22nd - July 31^st for program magnet schools and CTE Pathways.

• Waitlist Draw Dates: 
  • Pull March 1^st --> deadline to accept March 22nd
  • Pull April 1^st --> deadline to accept April 12^th 
  • Pull April 15^th --> deadline to accept April 26^th 
  • Pull May 13^th  --> deadline to accept May 24^th 
  • Pull June 10^th -->deadline to accept June 21^st 
  • Pull June 24^th --> deadline to accept July 5^th 
  • Pull July 8^th --> deadline to accept July 19^th 
  • Pull July 22^nd --> deadline to accept August 2^nd 

• Exceptional Children’s Programs (ECP) -  Please note: ECP may override lottery assignments for students whose IEP teams indicate the need for a separate/self-contained placement.
