Specials

  • At Forest View, all students participate in "Specials" classes in addition to their core class (homeroom).  These classes meet approximately once a week and are led by teachers trained in their area of specialty.

     

    Art With Ms. Little

    Visual Arts classes not only offer opportunities for “Art for Art’s Sake”, but integrate all the other curricula to reinforce learning in Math, Science, Literacy, and especially Social Studies.  We use a variety of media to explore techniques in two-dimensional and three-dimensional projects.

      

    Music with Ms. Lloyd

    The music program enables students to find their own voice and encourages a love of singing with their community. Students explore rhythms and melodies through playing Orff-style xylophones and percussion instruments. All students learn about the elements of music, music history, and work towards musical literacy. Songs are interspersed with fun singing games, movement, and creative projects. Older students learn to play the recorder, to play the ukulele, and compose and arrange their own songs.

     

    Physical Education with Coach T.  

    All students (K-5) will have PE once a week. Kindergarten, first grade, and second grade will initially focus on spatial awareness, body control, and movement patterns before progressing to cooperative games and fundamental skill developments.

    Third, fourth, and fifth grades will quickly progress to small sided games while incorporating learned fundamentals from previous lessons. Furthermore, a larger focus will be geared towards fitness initiatives and developing a love for lifelong healthy and active lifestyles.

     

    STEM Lab with Ms. Bodnar

    STEM is an acronym that stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. During this special, students in K-5th grade will use science and math concepts to solve real-world challenges and problems. Creativity will be enhanced by the use of technology to engineer "hands-on" solutions. Students may explore designing and testing straw rockets or building and evaluating towers, windmills and bridges. Class is team-oriented where students learn how to examine problems and then create a plan to solve them. We discover mistakes are valuable and respected. STEM education builds confidence and critical thinking skills which prepares students for the future.

     

    Global Langauge with Mr. Vasquez

    This is a new class for the 2024-25 school year!  Students will have the opportunity to learn about global languages, including Spanish!
